It is important to the Team at Hanham Health that we are meeting the needs of our patients and therefore we are pleased to announce that we will be opening our doors both earlier and later on various days for those patients who find it difficult to attend appointments during working hours.
Every week we will be offering early morning appointments (between 7.30am and 8.00am) and evening appointments (after 6.30pm).
In addition we will also be offering appointments on one Saturday per month either at Hanham or Oldland for pre-booked appointments only (our phone lines will not open and we will be unable to see patients who walk-in without an appointment).
Our Patient Participation Group have been consulted on this proposal and fully endorsed the plans at their May 2014 meeting.
The dates for the 2014/15 Saturday surgeries are listed below but please be aware these may be subject to change and our Reception Team will be able to confirm dates on enquiry:
- Saturday 28th June - Oldand Surgery
- Saturday 12th July- Hanham Surgery

Following discussion with our Patient Participation Group and in an attempt to tackle the increasing number of missed appointments we will shortly be launching our new text reminder service.
This means we will send a text message to those patients with mobile telephone numbers on their records with a reminder of any booked appointments and asking them to cancel if the appointment is no longer needed.
If you would like to benefit from this service, please ensure that we have an up to date mobile number for you by completing a slip available in the waiting rooms. Alternatively you can email your mobile number to [email protected] (Please remember to include your name and DOB with any mobile you send by email).
If you would like to opt-out of this service, please complete an SMS consent form available on this website or respond to the initial message that you receive.
We do not advise patients to use 'shared' mobile numbers.
If you do not want your information shared and wish to opt out, please submit your request in writing to Kelly Cole, Customer Service Manager, who will ensure the necessary action is taken.
Many of you have told us that you would like to receive all the latest Hanham Health news straight to your inbox via email. No problem, if you would like to receive these updates just use our surgery email address, [email protected].nhs.uk, to let us know and we will add you to our mailing list. Hanham Health registers with the the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
From 1st April 2013 all GP services have to be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and will be regulated by them. Hanham Health is pleased to announce that we have successfully registered with CQC.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They make sure that care in hospitals, dental practices, ambulances, care homes, people’s own homes and elsewhere meets national standards of quality and safety – the standards anyone should expect whenever or wherever they receive care. CQC also protect the interests of vulnerable people, including those whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act. CQC inspect GP practices and other primary medical services in England to check that they are meeting the national standards of quality and safety.
Details of Hanham Health’s CQC registration can be found on the CQC website www.cqc.org.uk
Following patient feedback we are pleased to announce that routine doctors appointments can now be made up to 4 weeks in advance. This is an improvement on our previous system which allowed a maximum of 2 weeks.
Same day appointments will be made available for urgent medical reasons only that cannot wait until the next available routine appointment. You only need to call the surgery on the same day as you want an appointment if it is an emergency.
Dr Stephen Illingworth has retired from Clinical Practice after nearly 39 years. He will be sorely missed by both patients and staff and we wish him well for his retirement. We are pleased to confirm that Dr Kerry Maguire, Dr Rupa Parmar, Dr Laura Layzell and Dr Ellie Carslake have all returned from maternity leave and will shortly be followed by Dr Jenny Lockey. Dr Esther Coats has also rejoined the Practice on a temporary basis and many of you may remember her from her previous work with us.
We have also appointed a new member to our IT team. Ben Harrington is currently completing his apprenticeship with us and working with us to help improve our IT systems and look at new initiatives we may want to start.
From Thursday 30th June 2011, we were no longer be able to accept cheques as a method of payment for those services and prescriptions that carry a charge. The number of cheques we receive has fallen to a level at which it is no longer cost efficient for us to process them. Payment can be made at both surgeries using cash, debit or credit card.
If you currently pay by cheque and would like to discuss the other methods mentioned above, we will be happy to assist.
